During the kidnapping, the businessman was threatened with a gun, beaten with a wooden stick, and had his head covered with a cloth. The abduction took place while he was preparing to take a taxi to Johor Bahru Senai International Airport. Kidnappers had then left a mobile phone at the scene to contact the victim’s family, reported Sin Chew Daily News. They demanded 30 million ringgit (S$9,128,000) as a ransom. Released after family paid S$6M ransom After negotiations, the victim’s family asked to lower the ransom to 20 million ringgit (S$6,085,000). They raised five million ringgit in cash and placed it in a residential area in Taman Perling, Johor Bahru. The remaining amount was transferred to a bank account through a friend from Singapore. The victim was released 14 hours later, as reported by Lianhe Zaobao. He informed the police that there were four kidnappers involved, including a woman, but he was unsure of their nationalities. Royal Malaysian Police Johor Chief Inspector Kumar said that a statement would be issued only after a thorough investigation. Local news reported that the victim was a wealthy businessman hailing from Perak who relocated to Johor several years ago. He also had several “development projects” and businesses around Malaysia.
