A woman, who bought a piece of salmon from a FairPrice supermarket, got a rude shock when she found a worm inside while eating the fish.
The worm measured about 6.5cm, the woman, who goes only by Liz, told .
She had reportedly bought a discounted pack of salmon bones from a FairPrice outlet in Bedok North on Aug. 12, and her mother cooked it at home on Aug. 15.
As the family ate the fish that night, Liz said she found what she called a "cooked long parasitic worm" in the last part of the two-and-a-half pieces that she ate.
A photo of the affected salmon, viewed by Mothership, showed a portion of the worm's white body sticking out of the partially eaten salmon.
"This is not acceptable. It's also very disgusting," Liz said.
She told ST that she experienced bloating after eating the fish, but did not experience any diarrhoea.
FairPrice Group has since apologised in a statement on Aug. 19.
"We apologise for the inconvenience and alarm caused to our customer and have reached out to address her concerns," a spokesperson said, according to ST.
FairPrice added that food safety and quality are taken seriously by them, and that food sold in its supermarkets are safe for consumption if handled right.
An internal investigation is ongoing with the supplier.
The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) has also said it will carry out its own investigation.
"Food safety is a joint responsibility," SFA said.
"Food operators must play their part by adhering to good food hygiene and preparation practices."
