FIFA revealed that FAM had submitted falsified documents related to player eligibility verification, which enabled them to feature in official matches, and granted a 10-day deadline to appeal. - File pic KUALA LUMPUR: The FA of Malaysia (FAM) have firmly denied any wrongdoing in the eligibility process of seven national players, stressing that all documents were obtained and submitted according to official procedures. FAM in a media statement said that they will formally submit its appeal through the designated legal channels. FAM also stressed that all relevant documents and supporting evidence related to the case have been fully prepared and are ready to be submitted to FIFA immediately through official means. "FAM takes seriously several of the conclusions outlined, particularly the allegation that the players 'obtained falsified documents' or deliberately sought to evade eligibility regulations. FAM maintains that no evidence has been presented by FIFA to support such claims," read the statement. "All documentation and submissions related to player eligibility were prepared, verified, and managed entirely by FAM in accordance with the prescribed procedures. At all times, the players acted in good faith, relying fully on the verification and registration process conducted by FAM." "FAM believes that this portrayal is inaccurate and unfair, and the matter will be comprehensively addressed through the formal appeal process." "FAM remains committed to defending the interests of Malaysian football, protecting the rights of the players, and ensuring that this process is conducted transparently and in accordance with the rules. The association will exhaust all available legal avenues in pursuing this case." FAM also emphasised that the case involves official information relating to the Malaysian Government's procedures for passport issuance and verification. "In line with the provisions of the Official Secrets Act 1972 and the Passports Act 1966, any disclosure of such materials or processes without proper authorisation is strictly prohibited. As such, FAM is legally bound to maintain confidentiality on these elements and will only share the relevant information with FIFA for the purpose of this case." FIFA's disciplinary committee on Sept 26 fined FAM 350,000 Swiss francs (RM1.8 million) for allegedly using doctored documents in the registration of seven heritage players. The players — Facundo Garces, Imanol Machuca, Hector Hevel, Gabriel Palmero, Rodrigo Holgado, Joao Figueiredo and Jon Irazabal — were also suspended for 12 months and fined 2,000 Swiss francs each. FIFA revealed that FAM had submitted falsified documents related to player eligibility verification, which enabled them to feature in official matches, and granted a 10-day deadline to appeal. All seven players featured in Malaysia's 2027 Asian Cup qualifying match against Vietnam on June 10, which later prompted an official complaint to FIFA regarding their eligibility.
