Australian doctor, 92, who specialises in anti-ageing medicine, has baby with wife, 37

At 92, an Australian man became the country's oldest new father after welcoming his fourth child with his second wife in early 2024.

Born in the 1930s, John Levin, a doctor specialising in anti-ageing medicine, said he is hoping to live long enough to see his toddler turn 21, according to .

He would be 113 then.

An unusual love story

Levin and his wife, 37-year-old Lu Yanying, reportedly met when Levin began Mandarin classes to "fill the void" after his first wife of 57 years died.

Lu, a linguistics lecturer, was his tutor, and the pair quickly bonded over common topics.

They married in 2014 in Las Vegas without intending to have children, but reconsidered during lockdowns during the Covid-19 pandemic.

"I thought to myself, if I lose him, I want a part of him. I wanted to have a child," Lu reportedly said, according to Herald Sun.

They had their child, Gabby, via IVF in February 2024, and are said to be considering having more children.

Levin has three other children in their 60s from his first marriage, the oldest of whom passed away five months before Gabby's birth.

Aiming to see him turn 21

A key goal of Levin's is to live to see his son turn 21 and witness his religious coming-of-age ritual at 13, he told the media.

In achieving this, he has deployed his own own anti-ageing tactics, including injecting growth hormones for the past 10 years, spending an hour at the gym each day and studying for two hours before going to work for six more.

Health supplements including multivitamins, fish oils and antioxidants were also key to ensuring his quality of life as he aged.

He also reflected on having forgotten what it was like in the early days of fatherhood, having had his first child in the 1970s when he was 28.

"It’s all so different now," he told Herald Sun.
