A spa owner in Penang, Malaysia has been fined RM8,000 (S$2,513) after exposing others to the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). Khor Yik Keian was fined after pleading guilty to two charges of putting others at risk of infection, under Section 12(1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Act 342), reported Free Malaysia Today (FMT). He also pleaded guilty on Dec. 5 to possessing pornographic materials on his mobile phone. Khor was among 13 men arrested during a raid on Nov. 29 at Unique Two Recreation Centre in Perai, Penang. New Straits Times reported premises included a rest area, sauna and partitioned rooms allegedly used for sexual activities. Authorities believe the place has been active for the past two months. Nine Malaysian men and two foreign nationals, aged between 19 and 66, were arrested for alleged illicit sex activities. Gross indecency Among those arrested, three men, aged 19, 37 and 33, were charged with committing gross indecency against Khor and 58-year-old Mohamad Azuddin Sabran at the same spa and sauna centre. Utusan and Kosmo reported that all three were charged under Section 377D of the Penal Code. They pleaded not guilty and were each granted bail of RM12,000 (S$3,770) for both charges. In addition, other men were also charged with possessing pornographic materials on their mobile phones. If convicted, they can be jailed for up to three years, fined, or both.
